Day 1

Upon arrival into Nairobi, clients will be met and transferred to the Tamarind Tree hotel. Afternoon at leisure. Overnight at the Tamarind Tree Hotel in a Standard room on a bed and breakfast basis. Afternoon at leisure. (Check in time 14:00). Depending on time of arrival clients may choose to add an optional excursion. The Tamarind Tree Hotel is ideally located just 5 kms to the southwest of Nairobi within the spacious Carnivore grounds and its iconic Carnivore Restaurant. The hotel offers easy access to all parts of the city. The nearby Langata and Karen suburbs are among the liveliest and most popular in Nairobi with world-class shopping malls and excellent restaurants. Tamarind Tree Hotel, with its world-class amenities, is perfect for both the business and leisure traveller.

Day 2

Drive north after an early breakfast to Samburu, pass near Thika and continue north through some breathtaking scenery dotted with rushing mountain streams and fields of coffee. After Nanyuki town, continue north, eventually reaching a growing town of Isiolo, into the remote northern frontier district. From here it’s a fairly short hop to Samburu. Arrival at the lodge in time for lunch. Enjoy an afternoon game drive returning to the lodge by late evening. Overnight at Samburu Game Lodge on a full board basis. Drive time approx: 7 hours. Samburu Lodge in Samburu National Reserve is set in a rugged landscape with a backdrop of jagged mountains and its own indigenous animals, unique to the region. The landscape, wildlife and vegetation are very different to the lush, rolling grasslands of other national parks. Here you will find thorn-bush, open plains and vast horizons, where one may taste the romance of this desert terrain. Situated on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, it and offers a wide choice of accommodation units spread along the river bank, in cottages, bandas and single or twin rooms. The dining room is open on the river side, with long tables and large buffets offered. The popular Crocodile Bar overhangs the water and has a great vantage point for nightly crocodile feeds. The birdlife is especially notable around the lodge. During the heat of the day you may well be happy to lounge around the pool and after sunset and sundowners, watch traditional dances of the Samburu warriors.

Day 3

Early morning game drive is followed by breakfast, and time to relax by the lodge pool or the terrace overlooking the river. After lunch there will be another game drive returning to the lodge as the sun sets. Overnight at Samburu Game Lodge on a full board basis.

Day 4

Leave after breakfast and drive south and into the forests of the Aberdare Mountain range arriving at Abwerdare Country Club for check in and lunch, then afternoon transfer to The Ark in Aberdare national park. This is a tree lodge set in a forest glade with a waterhole that attracts all sorts of wildlife during the day and night. The waterhole is floodlit and there is an underground viewing platform. Overnight at The Ark on a full board basis. Drive time approx: 5 hours. The Ark is one of Kenya’s original tree lodges, for the animals it attracts and for the sheer joy of exploring a tree house visited by rhino, elephant, buffalo, lion, bushbuck, waterbuck and many other species. Here, guests are met by a guide who advises guests on common sense rules of behaviour necessary for safety and good animal viewing. The lodge rises dramatically overlooks a water hole and salt lick. Game viewing is main activity, the accommodation is compact and cosy. At 7,500 feet above sea level it is chilly at night at all times of the year, especially from June to September. During these months, you will need sweaters and hats for comfort and warmth.

Day 5

An early morning start first takes you north-west through Nyahururu where theres Thomson Fall for a photo stop over then proceed down the Great Rift Valley to your next destination, the spectacular Lake Nakuru. Enter the park and you may view game en route to the lodge. After lunc and a siesta, there is an afternoon game drive returning to the lodge as in the late afternoon. The national park, known for its birdlife, offers a possibility to view flamingoes. You will look out for Black and White rhinos and the rare endangered Rothschild Giraffe. Overnight at Lake Nakuru Lodge on a full board basis. Lake Nakuru Lodge is situated in the southern aprt of the park, (Ramsar site) only four hours’ drive from Nairobi, through beautiful forested uplands and passing a series of lakes. It is near the thriving town of Nakuru.Fully fenced to avoid human wildlife conflict and to conserve and protect wildlife. Lake Nakuru Lodge is in the south-east ecological niche of the park, with commanding views of the lake and the flamingos for which it is justly famous. Lush gardens surround the lodge and cottages. There is a good programme of activities and evening entertainment. Drive time approx: 5 hours.

Day 6

After an early morning breakfast, drive to Narok town with a brief a rest stop and proceed to Mara arriving in time for lunch at the Lodge. After lunch, depart for an afternoon game drive returning back to the lodge as the sun sets. Overnight at Keekorok Lodge on a full board basis. Drive time approx: 5.5 hours. Keekorok Lodge was opened in 1965 and lies at the southern end of Masai Mara National Reserve, approximately 280 kilometres from Nairobi. It is sited in the direct path of the annual migration and was the first lodge to be built in the Mara. At the height of the migration, Keekorok is surrounded by a swarming mass of animals and there is hardly need to go on a game drive. Keekorok’s charm lies in the liberal use of local building materials. Sand stone, cedar wood and other indigenous materials are used in all rooms and public areas. In front of the lodge there is a 300m elevated walkway that meanders through a small riverine forest to a small bar at one end. This overlooks a dam where resident hippo and other game are regularly seen. There are no fences around Keekorok and it is not uncommon to see elephant and buffalo on the perimeter of the grounds or even strolling in. Though there are guards on the constant vigil!

Day 7

Entire day dedicated to game viewing with early morning and afternoon game drives. Overnight at Keekorok Lodge on a full board basis.

Day 8

After breakfast depart the Masai Mara and retuen to Nairobi arriving approximately by midday. Drive through Narok, the district headquarters of this part of Maasailand. On arrival, clients will be dropped off at a city hotel or at the airport for onward travel arrangements. Drive time approx: 5.5 hours.
