This unexplored circuit takes you to off the beaten track by flight to Homabay with many attractions, the Rusinga island, Ruma national park, Kisumu city at the shores of Lake Victoria ending up in the remaining tropical rain forest in Kakamega. Before flying back to Nairobi.

Day 1: Nairobi – Homabay

On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta airport, will be picked up by our representatives and after a briefing, will be taken to hotel and rest after overnight flight, early morning after breakfast, for a scheduled 45minite flight to Homa bay Kabunde airstrip, and transfer to the Cold Springs Hotel for checking in. Activities in Homabay will involve enjoyment of beautiful and pleasurable unique fusion of cultural diversity of Luo as famous Kochia and Kagan traditional dancers will usher you warmly into the town. Lunch will be served at Cold Springs Hotel. Afternoon tour to Lake Simbi Nyaima and Homa Hills Hot Springs.

The waters of Lake Simbi Nyaima are said to have medicinal value and the site has a legendary story. Enjoy health and wellness tourism; Homa Hills have a curative potential to a number of healthrelated illness especially those related with joint bones. Visitors can carry eggs, maize cob to boil as they marvel around the scenic and ambient environment of homa hill hot spring.

Day 2: Homa Bay– Ruma National Park-Rusinga Island

After the early breakfast, we shall head to Ruma National Park is a mosaic of landscapes, ranging from reverie woodland and rolling savannah to magnificent escarpments and towering cliffs, Ruma National Park promises undiscovered wildlife treasures and undisturbed peace. It is also Kenya’s remaining sanctuary for the endangered roan antelope and Rothschild Giraffe. It hosts the largest herd of Rothschild Giraffe sub species the world over. Lunch to be served at RusingaLodge, picnic lunch, we visit Tom Mboya Mausoleum, come back to the lodge and relax at the lodge while enjoying its facilities. Dinner and overnight at the Rusinga Lodge.

Day 3: Rusinga Island – Kisumu

After the early breakfast, we will organize for boat riding, bird watching and sport fishing at the nearby beach from the lodge. You will enjoy part of the morning relaxing by the poolside or swimming before Lunch. After lunch, drive to Kisumu and check in at Imperial Express hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Kisumu

After very early breakfast at the Impala Lodge, you will visit Kisumu museum. The museum has the largest exhibition of the UNESCO-sponsored Luo traditional homestead. Buy African made traditional items at a nearby curio shop and proceed to Kit Mikayi. KitMikyi is a rocky outcrop with three towering rocks. It is off the Kisumu – Bondo Road. Kit Mikayi means “Stone of the first wife” in the Luo Language. It is believed that Mikayi (the first wife) went up the hill to the stones when her husband took a second wife. She has been weeing ever since.

Take a picnic lunch at Kit-Mikayi and proceed to Alego Nyangoma Kogelo Village.
Alego Nyangoma Kogelo Village is the official birthplace of Barack Obama Snr, the father of the United States’ first black president, Barack Obama. Obama’s grandmother, Sarah Obama is a popular figure in the village. After a fantastic tour of the Sarah Obama’s home and the entire Kogelo village, you travel back to Imperial Express hotel for Dinner and Overnight.
A visit to Impala Sanctuary and Hippo Point can be arranged before dinner depending on the availability of time.

Day 5: Kisumu – Kakamega National Reserve

Early breakfast and depart for Kaka mega forest with picnic lunch enroute via the khongomurue (crying stone of Ills’). Crying stone of Illesi is the legendary weeping stone, located at Illesi along Kisumu-Kaka mega Highway. It is connected with many legends and myths. It is a huge rock formation, Snakes, Lizards and other animals, BirdWatching, Massive Trees, Scenic Spots and waterfalls which resemble a gowned figure perpetually in tears flowing from top-toe. The stone is held dear by the locals and is believed to be of spiritual importance to the local Luhya communities. Villagers believe that when the stone cry’s, it is a good sign and that signifies a bumper harvest in the coming season.

Kakamega forest is a home to a huge variety of birds and animals and is well worth the minimal effort required to get to it. Some parts of the forest are very dense and for a greater appreciation of the flora and fauna a guide with an extensive knowledge of the trees and birds accompany you to guide you around. Binoculars and wet-weather gear are essential as it usually rains heavily every afternoon for a couple of hours.

You can also take the opportunity to enjoy the Luyha culture which is also a major attraction in Kakamega County. The Luyha community boasts of a rich culture which is very interesting and fun to be part of. Ranging from the bull fighting which involves two precipitants putting their strongest bull for a fight and the one who wins walks away with the set price and the pride that comes with it. The county is also recognized for its circumcision rituals which are undertaken bi-annually where boys are circumcised and initiated into manhood. This is popular and it attracts people across the country and beyond to witness the celebrations. Other cultural activities are cock fighting and traditional dances which are held every year.Dinner and overnight in Rondo Retreat Centre.

Day 6: Kakamega forest – Kisumu – Nairobi

Depart Kakamega forest for Kisumu and have lunch at Kisumu Impala loadge. After lunch take a domestic flight to Nairobi and drive to the airport for international flight.
